How to read this
Four phases:
- Now — work actively in progress. You will see this in the next release.
- Next — committed, scoped, in design or build. Target the release after that.
- Later — directionally committed. We are confident this is the right next step but the design is open.
- Research — we are investigating, not promising. May never ship, and that is fine.
What is in progress
Now v1.5.0 — Adaptive plan, v2
The current adaptive plan is good at reacting to the day, but the cold-start experience (the first 14 days) is rough. v1.5 rebuilds the cold-start so users see useful, specific guidance from day one instead of generic suggestions.
- Smarter onboarding that learns from the first 3 days, not the first 3 weeks
- Plan preview before acceptance — you see what the app will do for you before you commit
- Refined sleep model on charging-only nights (one of the top support tickets in 1.4)
Next v1.6.0 — Coach memory, persistent
The Coach is good in a single conversation but forgets you between days. v1.6 makes the Coach remember: your goals, your food preferences, your training schedule, your family's meal patterns. It is still on-device, still private, but the experience improves dramatically.
- Persistent goal & preference model, fully on-device
- Coach can reference past conversations by date, not just by topic
- "What did the Coach tell me last Monday?" actually works
Next v1.7.0 — Barcode + restaurant menu scan
Today, food grading is photo or text. v1.7 adds barcode (works for ~3M packaged products) and a restaurant menu mode (snap the menu, the app proposes what to order based on your day).
- Barcode lookup against the Open Food Facts database, cached on-device for offline use
- Restaurant menu mode: photo of the menu, get 3 ranked recommendations based on the rest of your day
- No server round-trip. Both run locally.
What is coming later
Later Wearable integration, opt-in
We have always said Body Mode does not require a wearable. That stays true. But for users who wear one — Garmin, Wear OS, Fitbit — the integration is opt-in, on-device, and only ever adds data, never takes it away.
- Read-only Health Connect bridge for heart rate variability and resting heart rate
- Garmin Connect Daily Summary import (manual or scheduled)
- No two-way sync. The wearable never writes back to Body Mode's plan.
Later Family & care circles
Not "leaderboards" — privacy-respecting shared contexts where a parent, partner, or care team can see aggregated status without seeing individual meals. Examples: a parent of a teenager managing Ramadan, a partner supporting an illness recovery.
- Each member keeps their own data on their own device
- Sharing is opt-in per category (meals, sleep, training, plan adherence)
- Sharing can be revoked at any time, instantly
Later Clinician export, opt-in
A printable, structured export of the last 90 days — meals, sleep, Bio Engine scores, plan adherence — for a registered dietitian or GP. Strict opt-in, the user controls the file, the file is theirs.
- PDF + FHIR JSON formats
- No direct clinician account, no data sharing with third parties
- Free for users; we do not charge clinicians a portal fee
What we are researching
Research Cycle-aware planning for hormonal cycles
The Hormonal Load Bio Engine score is an aggregate. A more granular model would vary the plan by cycle phase. We are early on this — current research is about whether the phone-only data we already have is sufficient, or if we need to ask the user to opt into cycle tracking.
Status: internal research, no public commitment.
Research Continuous glucose monitor bridge
CGM data would dramatically improve the Metabolic Flexibility score. But CGMs are medical devices, the data is sensitive, and the regulatory environment is country-specific. We are not committing to anything until we can do it in a way that respects all three.
Status: feasibility study, will not ship in 2026.
What we are not building (and why)
Social feed & friends
Wellness apps with social feeds optimize for engagement, not outcomes. Body Mode's job is to help you make one good choice today, not to entertain you while you scroll. We will not add a social feed.
AI-generated workout videos
Generating fake videos of fake trainers is the wrong use of generative AI. Real coaching requires real coaching credentials and real consent. If we add video content, it will be with named, credentialed professionals, and it will be clearly labeled as such.
Wearable-first mode
Body Mode is the only major wellness app that does not require a wearable. That is a feature, not a gap. We will not "downgrade" the no-wearable experience to push hardware sales.
Nutrition label scanning (US/EU databases)
We considered it. The label-format-specific heuristics are country-specific, error-prone, and the existing barcode path covers 80% of the value. The remaining 20% is not worth a second camera mode that confuses users.
Calorie-only mode
Calorie counting is reductive and psychologically harmful for a non-trivial subset of users. The 37-nutrient model is the floor. We will not ship a calorie-only quick mode even if it would grow downloads.
